Philadelphia has officially begun pulling clean energy from a large solar array built by Energix Renewables in Adams County, Pennsylvania, marking a major milestone in the city’s renewable energy journey. The project- completed after nearly six years of planning and construction- is now providing up to 25 % of the electricity used by city-owned buildings like City Hall, Philadelphia International Airport, and the Water Department through a long-term power purchase agreement.
Spanning about 700 acres and featuring around 230,000 solar panels, the utility-scale array feeds clean power into the regional grid, helping Philadelphia reduce carbon emissions while maintaining competitive energy costs under a 20-year contract at a fixed rate.
